“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” -Dr. Seuss
July and August have been some of the toughest months of my life but I’ve found solace in reading. Below are a few of the recent books I have been learning from:
- “If” by Mark Batterson: I am 3/4’s done with this book but I can confidently say I love this book so much! I read Batterson’s “A Trip Around the Sun” in June and he is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Have you ever experienced God trying to tell you something by repeatedly coming across the same verse/message in multiple different places? Well, that is currently happening to me with Romans 8. This verse was spoken at my sister’s funeral and it keeps popping up through different avenues in my life. I read it in a sympathy card, received a mug that had Romans 8 written on it and started reading this book, which is entirely based off of Romans 8. I don’t believe in coincidences and know that it is the Holy Spirit trying to speak to me.
- “None Like Him” By Jen Wilken: Besides having the most beautiful cover, this read has made me really think about God’s attributes and how important it is to remember and dwell on who He is. The Sunday evening before my sister passed away, I read chapter 2 on how God is incomprehensible and is a God of infinite mystery. I couldn’t agree more. Why would He allow this to happen to my family? Why Faith? How could this be a part of His plan? While I’ve been so confused and angry at God for what has happened, I still try to daily put my hope in Him and remember that He works in mysterious ways that I can’t always comprehend.
- “Unqualified” by Steven Furtick: Are you feeling defeated? Frustrated with your failures? Feeling like you just want to give up? This book will remind you that God has repeatedly worked through impossible circumstances and weak people…including you, if you let him.
Question for you: What’s your favorite author? Do you have any “must reads”?
